ATL are pleased to announce on behalf of one of their principals,
SORA Composites, the award of the supply contract to Lotus Cars
for all external body parts on their new Elise vehicle.
The Sotira moulding facilities manufacture these parts from
a range of low-pressure thermoset composite technologies, including
sheet moulding compound (SMC) and injection compression system
(ICS). This latter technology, a development of Resin Transfer
Moulding which has been patented by Sotira, enables parts to
be moulded that can achieve Class A paint finish with considerably
reduced post-moulding operations.
This is the first time that Lotus Cars has entrusted to an external
supplier the manufacture all of their external body panels.
Additionally, this contract has extended to cover the recently
launched GM Speedster / Vauxhall VX220, a vehicle which has
been engineered by Lotus and is being manufactured at their
new facility in Norfolk.
